We had to deal with dirty water along with rough water most of the past 7 days. At least we started with good water Thursday and some good size Squid were caught. The water temperature has slowly climbed and almost got to 65 degrees by this afternoon. We have rain and wind coming Friday and Saturday, so I don’t expect the water to clear anytime soon. We are still waiting for bait fish to arrive. Our catches were slow but we did deck the following species: Red Drum, Pompano, Flounder, Atlantic Kingfish (Whiting), Bluefish, Sharks, Catfish and Squid.
Wednesday night and Thursday the Squid were thick and big. Anglers filled their buckets with Squid up to 20 inches. George and Hector were jigging under their lights and found the Craken. Check the size if these Squid:
“Bull” Red Drum were our entertainment for the week. It was all blind fishing since the water was so dirty, you couldn’t see the bottom even in the skinny water. Fresh Squid was the first choice for the Reds, but Ghost Shrimp worked too. Terry, Jim and I decked and released “Bulls” but the best fight of the week was had by Max. He and his family were visiting PCB from Maine. Max was fishing beside me in the skinny water when suddenly the line began to peel off one of my reels. I asked Max if he wanted to fight the fish and the battle was on. This Red headed for deep water and towed Max from the shallows and almost out to the outer sand bar. Max and the Red were about evenly matched, but Max closed the deal and got his catch into the drop net. The picture doesn’t do the fish justice, but it was almost 38 inches long. He and his family were to head home the next day. What a great memory for this young angler.
